Unbox your plant promptly and check the soil before watering. Some leaf drop can happen after shipping or a change of environment. Give it a bright, stable spot and time to adjust before repotting.
Quick Care Summary
Keep your Ficus Moclame in bright, indirect light. Check the soil regularly and water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches feel dry, then let excess water drain. Use a pot with drainage and keep the tree in a warm, steady spot away from drafts.
Light
Bright, indirect light helps your Ficus Moclame maintain its dense, glossy canopy. An east-facing window or a position near a filtered south- or west-facing window works well. Gentle morning sun is usually fine; introduce stronger sun gradually to avoid leaf scorch. Rotate the pot occasionally for even growth.
Water
Check the soil instead of watering on a fixed schedule. When the top 1–2 inches feel dry, water slowly and thoroughly until water drains from the bottom. Empty the saucer or decorative pot. Check deeper in a large container because the lower soil can remain wet after the surface dries. Water less often when growth slows or light is lower. Both prolonged dryness and soggy soil can cause leaf drop.
Soil
Use a well-draining indoor potting mix in a container with drainage holes. A mix with some bark or perlite provides airflow around the roots while holding moderate moisture. Do not leave the pot standing in water.
Fertilizer
Fertilizer is optional. During active spring and summer growth, feed lightly with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the label. Wait until the tree has settled after shipping, and reduce or stop feeding when growth slows.
Repotting
Allow your plant to adjust before repotting. Repot when roots crowd the container, ideally during active growth, into a pot with drainage only 1–2 inches wider than the root ball. Prune lightly with clean shears to maintain its rounded canopy, and wipe dusty leaves with a soft, damp cloth. The milky sap can irritate skin, so avoid contact when pruning.
Humidity & Temperature
Average household humidity is usually suitable. Keep the plant warm, preferably around 65–85°F, and away from cold windows, drafts, and heating or air-conditioning vents. Avoid temperatures below 55°F. A sudden change in light or temperature may cause temporary leaf drop.
Pet Safety
Ficus plants are toxic to cats and dogs if eaten, and their sap can irritate skin. Keep your Ficus Moclame out of pets’ reach. If a pet chews the plant, contact your veterinarian or a pet poison-control service.
Accessories
If your order included a plant stand, assemble it on a stable, level surface and center the pot before adjusting the stand around it. If it included a water meter, check several areas of the soil, wipe the probe after use, and do not leave it in the pot. Use the soil’s actual moisture, not a fixed calendar, to decide when to water.
