Thank you for choosing Joey’s Houseplants! Enjoy your Ficus Burgundy and its glossy, deep-colored leaves.

Unbox your plant promptly and check the soil before watering. Some leaf drop can happen after shipping. Give it a bright, stable spot and time to adjust before repotting.

Quick Care Summary

Place your Ficus Burgundy in bright, indirect light. Water thoroughly when the upper part of the potting mix has dried, then let excess water drain. Use a pot with drainage and keep the plant away from cold drafts.

Light

Bright, indirect light helps maintain strong growth and its deep burgundy coloring. An east-facing window or a spot near a filtered south- or west-facing window works well. Avoid sudden exposure to harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch leaves. Rotate the pot occasionally for even growth.

Water

Check the soil instead of following a fixed schedule. When the top 1–2 inches feel dry, water slowly until it drains from the bottom, and empty the saucer. Check deeper in a large pot; the mix may dry more slowly in winter or lower light. Persistently wet soil can cause leaf drop and root problems.

Soil

Use a well-draining indoor potting mix and a container with drainage holes. A little perlite or bark can improve airflow around the roots. Do not leave the pot standing in water.

Fertilizer

During active spring and summer growth, feed lightly with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the label, if desired. Let the plant settle after shipping before feeding. Reduce or stop fertilizer when growth slows.

Repotting

Give your plant time to adjust after delivery. Repot when roots crowd the container, ideally during active growth. Choose a pot with drainage only slightly wider than the root ball. Wipe dusty leaves with a soft, damp cloth; the milky sap can irritate skin, so avoid contact when pruning.

Humidity & Temperature

Average indoor humidity is usually suitable. Keep the plant in a warm, stable spot, preferably above 55°F, away from cold windows, drafts, and heating or air-conditioning vents. Sudden temperature changes can cause leaf drop.

Pet Safety

Ficus plants are toxic to cats and dogs if eaten, and their sap may irritate skin. Keep the plant out of pets’ reach. If a pet chews it, contact your veterinarian or a pet poison-control service.

Accessories

If your order included a plant stand, assemble it on a stable, level surface and center the pot before adjusting the stand around it. If it included a water meter, check several spots in the soil and wipe the probe after use; do not leave it in the pot.
