Leave a product review & get 10% offThank you for choosing Joey’s Houseplants! Your 10-inch Dracaena Lisa / Black Beauty has three staggered canes and clusters of glossy, deep green leaves.
Unbox your plant promptly, remove packing material, and check the soil before watering. Place it in a stable spot and give it time to adjust after shipping.
Quick Care Summary
Give your Black Beauty bright, indirect light. Water when the upper portion of the potting mix is dry, then drain thoroughly. Avoid leaving its 10-inch pot standing in water. Keep it warm and out of pets’ reach.
Light
Bright, indirect light supports healthy, upright growth and rich leaf color. A spot near an east window or a filtered south or west window works well. It tolerates moderate light, but growth may slow and the soil will dry more slowly. Avoid strong direct afternoon sun, which can scorch leaves. Rotate the pot occasionally so all three canes grow evenly.
Water
Check the soil rather than watering on a fixed schedule. In a 10-inch pot, test a few inches below the surface; water when the upper portion feels dry. Water slowly and thoroughly until excess drains from the bottom, then empty the saucer or decorative pot. Water less often in lower light or winter. Dracaenas can develop brown leaf tips from fluoride or mineral buildup; rainwater or filtered water may help if this occurs.
Soil
Use a well-draining indoor potting mix in a container with drainage holes. The roots need air as well as moisture, so avoid compacted or constantly soggy soil. If the grow pot sits inside a decorative pot, remove any collected water after each watering.
Fertilizer
During active spring and summer growth, feed lightly with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to its label, if desired. Do not fertilize immediately after shipping or when growth has slowed. Excess fertilizer salts can contribute to brown leaf tips.
Repotting
Let the plant acclimate before repotting. Repot when roots crowd the grow pot, ideally in spring or summer, into a pot with drainage only slightly wider than the root ball. Keep the three canes at their current soil depth and firm the mix gently around them. Wipe leaves with a soft damp cloth to remove dust; trim fully brown tips or old yellow lower leaves with clean scissors.
Humidity & Temperature
Average indoor humidity is usually suitable. Keep the plant in a warm room, ideally around 65–80°F, away from cold drafts and heating or air-conditioning vents. Very dry air can contribute to crispy leaf tips.
Pet Safety
Dracaena is toxic to cats and dogs if eaten. Keep the plant out of pets’ reach. If a pet chews it, contact your veterinarian or a pet poison-control service.
Accessories
If your order included a plant stand, assemble it on a stable, level surface and center the 10-inch pot before adjusting the stand around it. If it included a water meter, check several spots in the soil and wipe the probe after use; do not leave it in the pot.
